The NBRC only accepts for recredentialing educational activities approved for state licensure or AARC granted CRCE. Since the state of Michigan has no CRCE requirements it defers to the AARC granted CRCE. If the persons holding the ACLS course apply for CRCE as MSRC has done in the past for the STABLE program, then the therapist can get CRCE for taking the ACLS course. If they do not apply for CRCE, the therapist doesn’t get the CRCE.
The person taking the class can’t apply for the credits. It must be the organization giving the course that applies to the AARC for the credits. Information is availalbe on the AARC website about applying for CRCE.
The first step is to enroll in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program. Michigan is home to several such programs. Click here for more information on available programs.
After graduating with a minimum of an Associate's degree, you must take the CRT exam from the National Board of Respiratory Care. Successfully passing this exam qualifies you for a Michigan licence to practice respiratory care. Most therapists eventually obtain the RRT credential (which requires two additional exams). Some go on to obtain advanced credentials in neonatal/pediatric care or pulmonary function testing.
